SAMEER SAYEGH: Moja prijateljica iz Ukrajine - Saša

Sameer Sayegh

My friend from Ukrajina – Sasha

Sitting in the park near my apartment

A woman approached with a very little child

playing with her

smiling

I don't remember how she and I started speaking

but we did!

From Ukraine I am

and I am Sasha

living near you

and I am from Iraq

»Her country participated in the invasions of Iraq

led by America«.

But what is the guilt of Sasha and her child;

and what is the guilt of Sameer?

And perhaps to change the discourse of fleeing and refuging!

She said,» Are you celebrating Easter«?

I said,

»How could I celebrate anything

alone«?!

She said perhaps in desolation but with a smile

we both are refugees

perhaps to squander and throw away my loneliness

she wanted to say

I am not celebrating too for being alone with my child

almost I come here every day

let us meet!

Sameer Sayegh

Moja prijateljica iz Ukrajine - Saša

Sedel sem v parku blizu mojega stanovanja

Pristopila je ženska z zelo majhnim otrokom,

ki se je igral z njo

nasmejan

in jaz sem Saša

živim v tvoji bližini

in jaz sem iz Iraka

Toda česa je kriva Saša in njen otrok;
